Name: Tamara Lichtenstein
Age: 20
Location: Houston, Texas
Camera/s: Nikon n80 and canon sure shot
When did you start taking photos?
I started freshman year of high school with a digital point and shoot. Sophomore year i got a digital nikon SLR, and finally i bought a film camera junior year and it really all started from there.
what are your outside influences, books, films, people?
There’s too many! Ryan Mcginley, Terry Richardson, and Juergen Teller are probably the one’s that inspire me the most everyday. Also, movies like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind and Voy a Explotar “move” me.
Is your work spontanous or well thought out?
A little bit of both. I bring a camera everywhere i go, but i also plan out little shoots sometimes.
Where do the idea’s for your work come from?
From my surroundings, my thoughts/dreams, and a little bit of inspiration from other peoples’ photography.
who are your models and what is your relationship with them?
Mostly all of my closest friends! They are the one’s i feel most comfortable around, and they’re all beautiful.. so why not!
your images have a sort of dreamlike quality to them, is this intentional?
Sometimes, I edit them in photoshop just a tiny bit to add more softness.
Film or digital and why?
I used to use digital in high school, but a couple of years ago i started using film, and i couldn’t stop! I guess the digital world just bored me.
The landscape in your images are often breath taking, do you take inspiration from it or does it just act as a backdrop?
I definitely take inspiration from it, because I am very particular with my background. Every shape, and color contributes to the feel of the photograph.
